The professionals at the Institut national en psychiatrie légale Philippe-Pinel conduct evaluations based on their specific area of expertise. These professionals actively collaborate in the multidisciplinary care of patients with severe and persistent mental disorders presenting a risk of violent behavior. This care includes evaluation, treatment, and social reintegration, as well as community support. Their expertise benefits external consultations as well as hospitalized patients.

The department of professional services at the Institut national en psychiatrie légale Philippe-Pinel includes psychologists, neuropsychologists, criminologists, social workers, pharmacists, occupational therapists, and art therapists. These professionals contribute to teaching at the college and university levels, most notably in their work with interns. They also take part in fundamental and clinical research, and are regularly asked to participate in various individual and group therapy sessions offered at the Institut.

Over the years, these professionals have developed a unique expertise in their particular fields. They must strictly adhere to their professional order, as they are required to work with members of a vulnerable community using methods that could be judged harmful. They must also perform reserved professional activities, as stipulated in PL n°21. Professional orders have a mission to guarantee that all its members have the competencies required to perform the activities reserved to them and ensure the respect for the rules specific to their profession (quality control of their professional practice, ethics, and continuing education).
