Research Program

My research program aims to better understand the evolution of individuals with mental health issues across different stages in the justice system. At each of these steps, there are opportunities where it becomes possible to intervene and provide care. My specific goals can be found throughout these steps and are divided into three categories:

  1. Better understand chronicity of the legal journey as well as the care of individuals presenting with a mental-health issue.
  2. Understand the evolution of the psychiatric and legal monitoring of individuals declared not criminally responsible on account of a mental disorder
  3. Identify and evaluate Québec’s mental-health courts.

More specifically, this program can be divided into two conceptual models:

  1. The effect of social context on the trajectory of individuals in the legal system who present with mental-health issues.
  2. The dynamic conceptualization of their health trajectory.
