This program’s mission is to evaluate and provide short-term treatment to a mixed clientele in an acute phase of mental disorder, often accompanied by comorbidity and violence. The goal of hospitalization is to evaluate and manage the level of anger, and provide the necessary recommendations to return a patient to their local hospital.
Patients are admitted to the Institut from detention facilities, external services, or network facilities. These patients present a risk that surpasses that facility’s supervision capacity.
Expert forensic services are provided within the program, as well as to patients who require it, in order to determine their ability to appear, criminal and pre-trial responsibility, and level of danger, as the case may be. Following an evaluation, they will be released to appear before the court. Some patients will then return to the Institut for a longer stay. In this program, emphasis is placed on liaison with the courts, lawyers, probation agencies, and Québec hospitals.
Patients must maintain a connection to personnel from the facilities who sent them as a fundamental condition to their admission, and they must maintain this link from the start of their admission to the Institut until their preparation to return to the sector or original resource.
These particular admission-expertise stays generally last from 3 months to a year.
