About

The Institut national de psychiatrie légale Philippe-Pinel has a solid tradition of training in research and intervention at the interface of mental health, justice, and safety.

As a leader in forensic psychiatry education, the Institut has a mission to transfer knowledge based on two main goals: training interns, and on-the-job training in such disciplines as nursing, specialized education, psychoeducation, psychology, criminology, and psychiatry. The Institut national de psychiatrie légale Philippe-Pinel is a stimulating environment for students who want to learn more about mental health and justice. Interns are integrated into multidisciplinary teams and benefit from solid support and close supervision in each discipline taught.

Thanks to our national mission, the Institut also provides training province-wide within the health and social services network, justice and public security network, and other community partners. When it comes to evaluating and intervening with individuals who have mental-health issues coupled with legal problems or a risk of violence, the experience of our personnel and researchers is used to supplement academic and ongoing training.
