This program is for clientele aged 14 to 18 who are undergoing severe psychiatric issues associated with violent behaviour, including sex offences.
The Institut offers a full evaluation service that can take anywhere from 30 to 60 days, depending on need. At the end of this evaluation, the care team will be in a position to answer questions from the Québec Court, Youth Division, including: Is the youth fit to face their charges? Were they responsible for the crime they committed? What are the appropriate measures that need to be taken to help the adolescent?
When treatment at the Institut is recommended, the adolescent placed under the Youth Protection Act can then undergo specialized treatment for a year or more. However, if the adolescent is placed under the Young Offenders Act, they cannot be treated at the Institut without their consent or for a period exceeding two (2) years.
This program is linked with the Institut’s Youth Network Clinic.
