A humanistic living and care environment

People hospitalized at the Institute stay for varying lengths of time in one of our 14 care units. Each unit typically consists of about 20 patients with a 24-hour care team.

A personalized care treatment plan

Patients are accompanied in their recovery by their multidisciplinary team in a relationship of therapeutic alliance. They are taught to understand and live with their problem and to recognize the symptoms. Patients are encouraged to actively participate in their treatment to speed up their recovery.

Healthy eating and a quality environment

The meals, prepared by the Institute’s food services to follow a balanced diet, take into account cultural distinctions and food allergies. All meals are served in the unit’s common room. The Institute is a smoke-free environment, and patients who smoke receive appropriate support to help them quit smoking.

Rehabilitation activities

Some rehabilitation activities are organized by the Specialized Service for Personal Development (SSDP) as a complement to milieu therapy. Patients can choose from a range of sports, cultural and leisure activities, develop new skills in specialized workshops for carpentry, horticulture or art. They can also finish their high school education.
